Your Breast Enhancement Surgery Options
Breast enhancement surgery is a procedure that achieves unique results for each patient, depending on their individual aesthetic goals. Selecting the correct implant for your breast enhancement surgery needs at our Sydney practice is crucial for a successful outcome. There are a host of options available that can provide you with natural-looking results. Breast implants may be comprised of either saline or cohesive silicone gel and you may choose between round and anatomical/teardrop shape prostheses. The operation may be performed from underneath the breast, through the nipple or areola or via the armpit. Implants may be placed under the muscle or on top of the muscle but under the breast tissue. Dr Benjamin Norris can help you choose the best implant size and shape as well as the best breast enhancement surgery technique to help you achieve your desired results.

Implant Size
There is a range of implant sizes available to select from so you can achieve your breast surgery goals. The main goal of breast enhancement is a breast appearance that is proportional to your individual body size and shape. Most doctors recommend that women do not increase their breasts by more than two cup sizes. However, each woman has her own aesthetic needs. Some women prefer a mature, very natural appearance, whereas others desire a more buxom, perkier look. During your initial consultation, Dr Norris will discuss which implant size can help you achieve your desired results.
Implant Shape
There are various implant shapes available for breast enhancement surgery. The most common are round and anatomical or teardrop. Round implants tend to be the most popular as they provide natural-looking results, while anatomical or teardrop shaped implants are designed to mirror the natural shape of the breasts. These prostheses are usually used when superior pole fullness is required, that is, when patients are long-chested. Dr Norris will analyse your individual body frame and assess your specific cosmetic needs before recommending the most appropriate implant shape for you.
Implant Placement
The placement of your implants during breast enhancement surgery depends on many factors. Because saline implants tend to wrinkle, they are usually placed underneath the chest muscle to camouflage it. Submuscular placement is also recommended for women who are extremely thin or who have very little breast tissue for a more natural-looking appearance. For some women, placing the breast implant on top of the muscle and below the breast tissue during surgery can help to more effectively fill out the breast envelope. This is especially recommended for women whose breast size has changed due to breastfeeding.
Breast Enhancement Incisions
During breast implant surgery, incisions can be made in the armpit (transaxillary), around the nipple and areola (periareolar) or in the crease underneath the breast (inframammary). There are advantages and disadvantages associated with each type of incision, and not every woman is suitable for each type. For example, it is hard to make an incision around the nipple and areola that is large enough to insert implants for women who have small nipples. For this reason, an incision in the armpit or underneath the breast would be more suitable. Incisions around the nipple and areola and underneath the breast are easier to conceal with conventional swimwear.
The most common incision site is the crease underneath the breast. The size of the incision can vary from two to five centimetres, depending on the type of implant used. Saline implants usually require a smaller incision than cohesive gel implants as they are not filled until after they are inserted. Â During your breast enhancement surgery consultation, Dr Norris can help you determine which incision site is most suited to your body type.
