The Breast Surgery Procedure

A variety of procedures can be performed to correct asymmetrical and tuberous breasts. For breast asymmetry, breast implant surgery can make the smaller breast resemble the larger breast. Breast reduction surgery can make the larger breast more closely resemble the smaller breast. Breast lift surgery is designed to correct problems regarding the shape or droopiness of the breasts.

For tuberous breasts, the tissue at the base of the breast needs to be released before any enhancement can be done. Dr Norris will make radial incisions under the surface of the breast tissue. A temporary tissue expander is inserted to help increase the size and shape of the breast. During a later operation, the tissue expander will be taken out and replaced with a permanent silicone or cohesive gel prosthesis.

Surgery is performed under general anaesthesia and can take up to three hours to perform, depending on the technique used. Additional time is needed for post-surgical recovery.

Recovery after Cosmetic Breast Enhancement Surgery

Recovery from cosmetic breast enhancement surgery depends on the method used. Most patients are up and about approximately two days after surgery. However, this depends on which surgical technique is used. Dr Norris recommends that you take it easy for at least the first week. Patients may experience bruising, swelling and discomfort during the first week or two after surgery, which can be alleviated with medication or wearing a compression garment. Dr Norris uses dissolvable sutures for cosmetic breast surgery to save you from the inconvenience of returning to have them removed. Any scarring after surgery will be pink in colour and fade to a silvery-white over time. Final results of your operation can be seen after four weeks and a full recovery can be made after a few months.
